When Journalism bows to Sensationalism
Journalists have a way of twisting the news, they strive for impact and in so they degrade the profession.
So what is sensationalism?
The dictionary describes sensationalism as;
sen·sa·tion·al·ism
senˈsāSHənlˌizəm/
noun
noun: sensationalism
1.(especially in journalism) the use of exciting or shocking stories or language at the expense of accuracy, in order to provoke public interest or excitement.
“media sensationalism”
So what that tends to give us is bullshit stories like this from CBC News in Canada
Now just by looking at the headline you’d be prone to thinking “OH MY GAWD ALL THE DRIVERS ARE HIGH”
What they don’t state is that 90% of Drivers were fine … We have to ask ourselves, why we drive towards the sensational, rather than the factual, why are we creating crisis?
Frankly, it’s bullshit and it needs to stop.
Can we please focus on reporting facts? Not twisting stories to fit a narrative?
Thank you very much professional Journalists ….
